About Us

Open 51 weeks per year, Westbury Tender Care Nursery was founded in 2001 and is based in a purpose built setting in a quiet, residential area in Croydon. Based on Westbury Road, close to the bustling town centre of Croydon, Surrey. With transport links to central London, our nursery is ideal for local families who would like an excellent standard of childcare for their little ones. We are an Ofsted rated 'Good' nursery with several outstanding aspects. Westbury is committed to providing childcare of the utmost quality and regularly sends staff on courses to maintain relevant knowledge.

Our Approach to Childcare

                                   Learning through play...

We believe that children learn through their play, therefore we value and support it. Children should be cared for by adults who respect and comprehend them, with open and honest adult-child relationships. Our daily routine helps us to achieve this, with adult initiated, child initiated, small group time and large group time activities.

The daily routine is displayed in each area. Clear boundaries and a problem solving approach to dealing with social conflict support the children further. Carers work in partnership with the parents/guardians and children to achieve more successful outcomes and build positive relationships

We use the early years foundation stage (EYFS) for learning, development and care for children from birth till five years of age. For more details on how the EYFS is implemented please see our curriculum.

Choosing a Nursery

We understand that choosing a day nursery for your child is a difficult decision, and for that reason, we support and advise viewings of our nursery before you commit to adopting childcare. In fact, we also suggest our prospective parents to view multiple settings before deciding - we want the best for you and your children, and are confident that eventually you will find the nursery which is perfect for you.

Below are  an example of some typical questions that will help you find out the significant things about any prospective nursery.

  • What are the opening times? What age range do they take? Do they take funding only places?
  • What are the procedures for settling in new children?
  • How often do the children use the outdoor facilities?
  • Are fire alarms and fire extinguishers provided, and do both staff and children understand the fire drill?
  • Has your child's security been properly considered - is access to the facility properly controlled?
  • Will the cleaning standards in rooms, kitchens and toilet facilities protect your child's health?
  • Who is in charge? What experience in childcare and what qualifications does that person have?
  • Who will be personally responsible for your child's progress, and how qualified is that person?
  • What is the ratio of practitioners to children and how many are qualified?
  • How many staff have been with the nursery for over a year? The solidity of the staff is significant.
  • What sort of food is provided? Can they cater for food allergies and special dietary requirements?
  • Will there be a planned progression of activities and skills throughout the year, or primarily just play?
  • Are parents encouraged to visit the nursery and remain involved with their children's development?
  • How are you kept informed of your child's progress, activities and development?
  • Do the children look happy and relaxed? Are they interested in what they are doing?
